I really love this book. Back in 2010-2011 I went through a very difficult time. I was having panic attacks, heart palpitations, couldn't eat, felt very unhappy and depressed. I couldn't function in my everyday life. I found no joy in the things that I used to enjoy. I knew that I needed help. In the summer of 2011, I reached my breaking point. I had two small children at home and I needed to be the best mom I could be to them. I wanted to be a good wife to my husband and I wanted to feel happy in my skin again. I wanted to be me. I wanted to enjoy life and this wasn't living. I went to see my doc in August 2011 and I shared with him what I was going through. He suggested taking an antidepressant and I struggled with it at first. However, for the sake of my sanity and my family, I decided to take it. It helped. ALOT. However, I made the decision that I was going to find the answer as to why I was feeling like this. I started Christian counseling and one evening I looked at my home library for something to read and I stumbled across this book. I had completely forgotten I had bought this book a year before. To be honest, I had never heard of Beth Moore but that day at the book store, this book caught my attention and I bought it. However, when I got home, I put in on the book shelf and completely forgot about it. However, God is so good and He knew that what would happen. So I picked up the book and I started reading. For me, I didn't read the book from beginning to end. I prayed and asked God to show me what stronghold topic I was to read for that day and I did and I read and meditated on the scriptures. One day I knew I was to read the stronghold of losing a loved one. I didn't want to read it. I felt a huge hurt in my heart. Even though I didn't know what were written on those pages on that subject, I felt like I was going to look at a mirror and a reflection I wasn't going to like. But I prayed and asked God to help me and in the evening I made the decision to be brave and read the chapter. Little did I know that the chapter would bring the breakthrough I was praying for. My husband and I lost a son a couple of hours after he was born back in 2002. When I was 5 months pregnant with him, we found out through an ultrasound that he had Potter's Syndrome and tumors in either his liver or kidneys (doctors could never pinpoint where since there wasn't enough amniotic fluid to see clearly). For 9 years, I suffered with his loss even though I thought time had healed my wounds. I was so wrong. It was a supernatural experience what happened that night but the only way I can describe it is if the blinds had been removed from my eyes and I could finally see why I was going through this depression. I had not dealt with the loss of my son and I had not healed. I cried like I had never cried before. For the first time since his passing, I could finally ask God to heal me of his loss and I could finally let go of the guilt I felt of not being able to save him. I continued with my counseling for a couple of weeks after that and I stopped taking the antidepressant in November 2011. Beth Moore doesn't know this but she had a huge part in giving me my life back. I thank God for her and the important part she had in my life. I have gifted this book to a dear friend who was having a difficult time as well and I have also recommended this book to family members. They too have purchased the book. If you are trying to find answers as to why you feel a certain way or why you are going through a certain situation, this book has valuable information to help one break free from the strongholds in one's life. This book has helped to transform my relationship with God. One thing I have always struggled with is putting my needs, requests, gratitude, praise in the right words. Not because I think God is judging me, but because I want to honor him by praying well. This book gives heaps of examples of how to take a scripture and turn it into a prayer and personalize it. If I have felt it or dealt with it- it is in God's word somewhere and no one could frame it or express it better than God himself. My counselor recommended it to me; the chapters go by topics all Christians struggle with. Writing out my own prayers for my exact needs seeing God already knows by using his very word is amazing!
Several years ago, as a man who was on the verge of destruction from alcohol and drugs, I read this book. Somehow the book was deposited on a bookshelf with hundreds of others, gathering dust. Then one day it was no longer there, recycled to another reader in another city. I re-ordered it because I knew that at this time in my life I wanted a better relationship with God than I had before. This book helps me to focus on three facts: God is listening, God is working to change my life like never before, and I want what He has to offer- freedom from the bondages and strongholds that held me fast at one time. This is a perfect prayer book that helps me to stop focusing on the problems of the present age, but on the power I have been granted to be an overcomer. Great way to keep God at the top of the priority list of daily victorious living.
Beth Moore always does a good job. She is knowledgeable but humble. My views are much more liberal than many of hers, and I still learn so much from her books because she explains things well, uses good examples, and quotes scripture throughout. This book deals with "strongholds" and praying through them. Strongholds include addiction (maybe we're not alcoholics or addicted to drugs, but how about being addicted to other things like TV or shopping or pleasing others or...?), guilt,, despair, unforgiveness (BIG PROBLEM for many of us!), etc. Excellent book to go through again and again with questions throughout that are helpful for a group or an individual.
This Christian author takes prayers from the Bible to use to fight spiritual strong holds in a person's life. As a Christian I started using this book several years ago, as an in depth power of Biblical prayers to fight against strongholds in my life. I am reading it again because the Christian walk is a continual walk. Now I am giving the book as gifts..
By far my favorite book! I have loved her other books, but having God's word written in prayer form, in specific categories of life is amazing. I've prayed over all the areas of my life, even I didn't feel trapped in those specific areas. I continue to return to this book yearly!
imho, BETH MOORE is one of the top 3-5 Bible teachers in the world in our era. She has walked out what she teaches. She hears clearly from Holy Spirit. imho, anyone who declines to hear The Lord God of Israel through Beth Moore because she's a woman, is . . . unaware . . . or worse . . . of God's priorities in such matters . . . and declines to respect sufficiently the verses about 'neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female . . . 'This book is a tremendous blessing to me. And I plan to give it to several loved ones. Each chapter's lesson is powerful and anointed. And the Scriptural prayers crafted from a wealth of verses are similarly powerful and anointed.I pray the book brings spiritual and other freedom from the enemy's strongholds in their lives to millions of Believers.
Love this book. I love how it is really just a compilation of Scripture regarding different areas in our lives that we need freedom in. I had it online but bought it so that I could mark the pages and keep coming back to some of these verses over and over again!
