user friendly, packed with information and easy to use. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone thinking of exploring this area
Lots of things to see, but could be organized differently.
It's really more about the hotels and restaurants and has no pictures. There's way too much info. I wanted an explorer's guide, not pages and pages of something I'm not interested in.I will probably never finish it. It is divided into counties which is good. It will go in my recycling bin as soon as I get the info I can use
I used an earlier 6th edition (2007) as an introductory guide to the region's sights and places to stay and dine, and I have come back to it for more. It breaks the region down in units that makes sense, and gives good qualitative summaries on overall towns and places as well as stopping points to eat, shop, and do. For really taking in the natural surroundings, though, you need AMC's Best Day Hikes in the Catskills and Hudson Valley, 2nd: Four-Season Guide to 60 of the Best Trails from the Hudson Highlands to Albany (2011).
