I like that it's short stories - makes for a good quick read but they aren't all that engaging. Perhaps because I can't relate to a lot of the writers that talk about kids and/or family between their writing. Plus the tips or moral of the stories are more along the lines of no brainers than ah-ha moments. It's a good quick grab if you want to escape for 7-10 minutes in a short story but the content isn't really all that engaging.
Many of these stories are women traveling a few days in the US - or go off for a short amount of time but meet up with a group later. Also, some of the writers were excellent and others were not. I love the idea but it just wasn't a book that I would recommend to others.
Good book
Quick read with a few good essays. Sold back to my local bookstore, so not a "keeper," nor did I recommend to anyone. Not bad.
Nothing to say; not as entertaining as some others I've read
This book was easy to pick up and read a short story and then set down and forget about it only to pick it up a couple days later for another one. The overall feeling I got was that I hope my travels abroad will in no way reflect what any of these women experienced. These woman have chosen not only to go it alone, but to go to places that I have never even considered. From ice and bullets to vertical climbs and running from horny men, please I beg...let me have a less interesting story to share when I return. While I was certainly inspired by the strength, courage and passion demonstrated by this group, part of me was hoping for a more naive, first time abroad, simple traveler like I'm about to become in a few days. My favorite thing about this book was the cover, I could gaze at it over and over. If you are looking for adventure, REAL adventure by REAL women, give it a read.

Simply a lovely collection of easy-to-read travel essays by some very talented women. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking to get away for a few minutes a day.
