In a word, Underwhelming. I understand the rankings by the author, no matter what they are can be argued by anyone and that's OK and it's part of why a book like this on the surface is appealing. The actual substance (or lack thereof) within the pages leaves a lot to be desired, it's basic NFL 101 within the capsules of the top 50 coaches featured in this book. It's so basic and blandly written that it felt like it was written for a middle school kid or the guy show shows up at your Super Bowl party and asks "who's playing?".There is absolutely nothing provocative in this book that makes you think or possibly re-evaluate your own biases or opinions of these coaches, there is very little that is insightful and no real justification for why one guy is higher than the other (Why is Chuck Noll ranked four and five spots behind Don Shula and Tom Landry when he has as many championships as they do put together?....and I'm no Steeler fan) it is a missed opportunity for some compelling reading. All you get here is just the career highlights for each coach over a few pages and a small table showing their basic records (so much more could have been done here too).This book would be ideal for someone young who's just learning the history of the league or an adult with a casual interest in the NFL who'd like to learn more but if you are a knowledgeable fan who has followed the game for a while you'll be bored quickly.
